# Director of Engineering — Australia & New Zealand **Yturn is recruiting a Director of Engineering on behalf of our client**, an applied AI and technology services company with deep expertise in AWS, cloud, data and engineering. This is the senior technical leadership role for Australia and New Zealand, covering cloud migration, application and data modernisation, data platforms, AI and agentic AI. It combines hands-on engineering, senior stakeholder engagement and accountability for delivery outcomes. ## About the organisation Our client is an **AWS Premier Tier Services Partner and Managed Service Provider**, supporting organisations from advisory and migration through modernisation, AI implementation and ongoing managed operations. With engineering teams across multiple geographies and a growing ANZ practice, the organisation offers an opportunity to build local capability while drawing on an established global delivery team. ## The opportunity You’ll own technical direction and delivery quality across the ANZ portfolio, guiding engagements from cloud migration and modernisation through to data platforms and production AI systems. Your remit will include architecture standards, engineering practices, technical escalation and senior stakeholder relationships. You’ll lead complex engagements personally, establish reusable delivery patterns and build the Australian engineering team as the practice grows. Working closely with AWS solution architects, partner teams, regional sales and global delivery leaders, you’ll help shape how work is scoped, staffed and delivered. ## What you’ll do - Own technical delivery across ANZ engagements spanning migration, application and infrastructure modernisation, data platforms, AI and agentic AI. - Establish and uphold architecture standards, engineering practices and quality gates. - Lead solution architecture for complex opportunities, from discovery and design through estimation and statements of work. - Stay hands-on through design and code reviews, resolving technical blockers and personally leading delivery where needed. - Oversee technical escalations and delivery health, including scope, schedule, quality and risk. - Build the Australian engineering team and collaborate with offshore teams to create a cohesive delivery function. - Develop reusable reference architectures, accelerators and delivery patterns. - Set standards for security, cost efficiency, observability, testing and production readiness. - Act as the senior technical authority with executive and CIO-level stakeholders. - Collaborate with AWS solution architects, field teams and partner stakeholders on joint technical planning and co-selling. - Support pre-sales with credible technical advice, feasibility assessments and clear delivery risk evaluation. - Apply lessons from delivery to improve how engagements are sold, scoped and staffed. ## What you’ll bring - Significant engineering experience, with a strong record of technical leadership in consulting, technology services or enterprise environments. - Experience across the delivery lifecycle, including leading migration and modernisation programmes. - Deep AWS expertise across compute, networking, security, data and AI services. - Strong data engineering foundations, including pipelines, warehousing, lakehouse architecture, streaming, governance and data quality. - Practical experience taking AI and ML workloads into production, including LLM-based and generative AI systems. - An informed interest in agentic AI, with a realistic understanding of its capabilities and limitations. - Demonstrated success leading engineers and raising engineering standards. - Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and contributing to detailed technical discussions and code reviews. - Sound commercial judgement, including realistic assessment of effort, estimates and delivery risk. - Comfort working in a growing practice where processes and ways of working are still taking shape. ## Desirable experience - Experience at AWS, an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner or a comparable cloud consultancy. - AWS Professional or Specialty certifications. - Experience working with distributed or offshore delivery teams. - Experience in regulated Australian or New Zealand industries, such as financial services, healthcare, government or utilities. ## Apply through Yturn If you’re an engineering leader who wants to stay close to technology while shaping a growing ANZ practice, we’d welcome a conversation.
